Mom Day & E-week

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there.

Mother's Day is special for me because unlike all the holidays and birthdays I've experienced in my life, I feel an involuntary sense of entitlement on this special day. Why? Because unlike holidays that just happen... and my birthday which I really had no control over... I work hard to be a mother. It's literally the toughest thing I've every done.

And so I got to thinking. In addition to being a mother, I'm also a wife, a sister and an engineer among all things. Although neither wives nor sisters are widely celebrated, engineers have a WHOLE WEEK? Did you know this? It's called Engineers Week or the more endearing E-week. During this week the profession of engineering is celebrated by who else but engineers themselves.

So engineers get a whole week but mothers only get a DAY! Do you see something wrong with this picture? I for one feel robbed.
